Join us at St. Philip for four sessions of Anglican 101 as we explore what it means to be Anglican and why we do what we do. This is great prep for anyone interested in Baptism, Confirmation, Reaffirmation, or Reception.

Session One

Anglican History A Snapshot 1534-Present

Presenter: The Rev. Dr. Rob James

Rob is British, having moved to Canada in 2022. He has several degrees in Theology, including a PhD from SOAS, University of London. He has been a Parish Priest and worked in a Cathedral in the UK, and he has taught Theology in the UK and in Canada. He is married to Jean, a secondary school mathematics teacher by profession. He enjoys walking, and generally being outdoors, astronomy, and amateur dramatics.

Session Two

Explaining the Eucharist: Why We Do What We Do

Presenter: The Ven. Brian Evans

Brian was born in Saskatchewan smack dab into the middle of the “Baby Boomer’s” and raised on farm in a small rural community. His education started in a one room school at Dewar Lake School No. 2244. Following Grade 12 he started to work in the local municipal office to apprentice as a Local Government Administrator. Within a year he was appointed the administrator for a Rural Municipality and Urban Village. A position he held for 16 years. During that time he was requested to be the 1st manager for a local Credit Union which was started in the community. After 16 years in Local Government Administration he was accepted for study at the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan an Anglican Seminary. Upon Graduation he was ordained in the Anglican Church. Brian has been involved in a number of community events and organizations over the years including being one of the organizers for Rural AIDS Advisory Teams in Saskatchewan. Brian is married to Flo, a professional floral designer, they have one daughter Katherine.

Anglican 101: The Basics of Anglicanism

Presenter: The Rev. Canon Jenny Replogle

As Executive Archdeacon, Jenny helps to empower, train, and equip ministry in parishes that do not have permanent clergy, to help them be more faithful, healthy, and effective in their particular contexts. She also works with parishes who are in a transition of clergy leadership and clergy interested in serving parishes in our diocese. Jenny brings extensive training and background in congregational development to the work of enabling people to live fully into who God created them to be. She and her husband, the Rev. Jonathan Thomas, moved to Victoria with two small children and one large dog.

Session Four

Ask Your Priest Anything

April 28, 2026

Presenter: The Rev. Leslie Flynn

Leslie is a lifelong Anglican who grew up in Victoria BC. She has a BA in Psychology with a minor in Human Services from Trinity Western University and a Masters of Divinity from Vancouver School of Theology. In her previous life Rev. Leslie worked as front-line staff in supportive housing and as a coordinator of children, youth and young adult ministry. Rev. Leslie is passionate about creating spaces to encounter Gods love, through liturgy, the sacraments, intergenerational community and discovering the scriptures in new and exciting ways. During her time off you will find her reading a good book, at the swimming pool or playing board games.
